Wajid's Chicken Tikka and Take-Aways
215 5th Ave Grassy Park
I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best chicken in South Africa and today I’m in Grassy Park, to try out Wajid’s Chicken Tikka and Take-Aways. Grassy Park is a tight-knit Cape Flats suburb with deep roots and a strong sense of community, where aunties know everyone’s business and the corner shop has been selling you coldrinks and bread since you were in school. It borders wetlands like Zeekoevlei and Rondevlei and is home to many incredible eateries, including this one. It’s here that for R50 you can get a quarter chicken breast with chips and a roll. After placing your order and selecting your sauce, I went for chilli, you wait while the expert grillmasters do their thing. For anyone interested, tikka literally means small pieces, or chunks. the marinade typically includes spices like garam masala, turmeric, cumin, coriander, garlic, ginger, and chili, all mixed into yogurt to tenderise the meat and boost flavour. Here its cooked over open flames, giving it that smoky, slightly charred edge. There’s a strong likelihood you’ll experience the phenomenon knows as masala fingers, so be careful not to eat them. Rather just stick to enjoying the out of this world chicken and chips I would highly recommend trying out Wajids for yourself and have left the details on hammyeats.co.za but if this is not the best chicken in South Africa, you need to let me know in the comments where I’m going next?
