I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best fish and chip parcel in South Africa and today your comments have sent me to the original Porto’s Store in Newcastle, KZN. Easily one of the most requested spots I’ve received in a while, it’s clear that they know what they’re doing. In an interview I did on my 5FM Breakfast Show I learned how from potato peelers, turned managers like Senzile Thabete and current owners Grace Felipe, the spot owes its strength to the founding philosophy of Francisco Gonsalves Filipe came from Madeira to South Africa in pursuit of a better life for his family and first opened Ponto’s in 1970. With everything from the piri piri, to the chips,  the bread and the sauces made in house, with tried and tested family secrets, the food here was world class and is certainly going to be hard to beat.
