Mohideens
R55 & Lochner Rd Raslouw AH Centurion
I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best parcel in South Africa, and I may have just found it. At the OG of OG’s, here at Mohideens
Mohideen’s isn’t just a takeaway,it’s a piece of Pretoria’s soul. Born in the 1950s in Marabastad, it was started by two Indian brothers, Muhammed Ebrahim and Sheik Ahmed Mohideen, who came to South Africa with little, worked in a blanket shop, and ended up creating something legendary: the Club Special. Steak, sausage, polony, chips, all drowning in that spicy, signature gravy.
The frikkadel burger followed, and both became cult classics, the kind of food that turns into tradition. Even through apartheid and the forced removals that scattered families to Laudium, Atteridgeville and Eersterust, Mohideen’s stayed put. It became the constant in a city that was changing.
Their son, Hassan Mohideen, carried the torch, sticking to the original recipes, feeding loyal customers and students who made the trip from Tuks like it was a pilgrimage. Some even froze meals to take overseas, that’s how real it is.
Now, a new generation has stepped in. The Mohideen nephews have opened a branch in Raslouw, staying true to the Club Special, while giving it a fresh spin for the next wave. Guiding by the expert hands of the previous generation. But no matter where you go, or who’s in the kitchen, there’s only one original. Mohideen’s.
This is family, flavour, tradition and community at its finest and I would highly recommend checking out Mohideens for yourself and have left their details in the caption, but if this is not the best parcel in South Africa, you need to let me know in the comments where I’m going next
