I’m Nick Hamman, and today I’m back in one of my favourite parts of the world — Fordsburg, Johannesburg — in search of delicious food.

If you’re new to the channel, here’s what I do: I go in search of the best, tastiest, most interesting, and exciting food spots — helping plug amazing local businesses along the way.
And this time, I thought I’d show you a bit more of how I actually do it.

Today, I ended up at Pehlwan Silver Spoon, located at 41 Central Rd. I picked this place by asking a local lady working in a spice shop where she was going for lunch — and she immediately pointed me here.

A lot of my best discoveries come from just being open and curious. I also get tons of great suggestions from the comment sections of these videos.
And yes — I get thousands of requests from people asking me to visit their stores. I’d love to get to all of them, but honestly, this adventure has grown so much that it’s become impossible to keep up!

When I arrive at a new spot, I always ask around — owners, waiters, anyone — to find out what the most popular dish is.

Today I went with a quarter portion of mutton karhai for R90, along with two garlic naans.
Karhai is a rich and rustic North Indian and Pakistani dish made by slow-cooking tender mutton in a wok-like pan with tomatoes, green chilies, ginger, garlic, and a blend of aromatic spices — until the oil separates and the meat is fall-off-the-bone tender.

In my opinion, I would’ve liked the lamb to be a bit more tender — but the flavours were fantastic. The value for money was great, the wait staff were friendly, and overall, this was an epic experience.
