Im Nick Hamman, and I’m looking for the best chisa nyama in South Africa, and today your comments have sent me to Kagiso, a township just South of Krugersdorp in Gauteng to visit Camphor meat supply. Like any good classic buy and braai, you walk in to select your meats, which are then weighed and priced before being taken outside to be braai’d. Kagiso has mostly Setswana speakers and was first established by ex-miners in the 1920’s. Honoring the great South African tradition of meat cooked on a flaming grill, the men here know what they’re doing. My selection of chuck, wors, liver, pap, and sala went for a total of R81 with the meat costing R47. The chuck and liver were decently done. Well spiced, cooked through and tasty, but the real star of the show was the chili wors which came juicy with a pretty good kick, which as a lover of spicy things made me super happy.
