Parea Taverna

Im Nick Hamman, and I’m looking for the best Greek restaurant in South Africa . Today, your comments have sent me to Parea Taverna in Illovo, with a branch also opening last year in Linden Johannesburg. With almost 3 decades of experience, which is a considerable feat in the restaurant game, this tried and tested institution is world-class. While on a weekend night, you might find festive Greek dancers entertaining guests, this quiet afternoon lunch stop of mine was just as delicious. Opting for a vegetarian platter for 1 for R189, I got dios, falafel, dolmades, haloumi, giant beans, baby marrow, and brinjal I also ordered souvlaki lamb for R69, which came as cubes of lamb on a skewer. In my experience, everything was excellent. The atmosphere was homely and cozy, understated and unpretentious, the food was exceptional, and the service was professional and friendly. All considered  I’m going to give Parea an 8.7 out of town, as my favorite so far, but if it’s not the best Greek food in South Africa you need to let me know where I’m going next
