If you want to eat what some say is the spiciest chicken in South Africa, you need to come to Al Hamra on 70 Mint Road in Fordsburg. The epitome of not judging a book by its cover the exterior may not be inviting, but stepping inside, I found the restaurant to be clean and the service attentive.
Your comments told me to come here for the Chicken Tikka served with salad and chips for R50, but you also warned me against getting the hot, so naturally that’s what I went for. The representation of Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi influences is strong here. Chicken tikka, when done right, is succulent and aromatic with marinated and grilled chicken pieces, infused with a blend of spices, delivering a perfect balance of smoky, tangy, and savoury flavours. And was it hot?
Yes, at some point, I couldn’t hide my sweating head, but was it tasty? Incredibly so. I’d highly recommend Al Hamra, but you need to tell me in the comments where to go next for spicy chicken.
