Lollipop Roadhouse
1340 Stanza Bopape St Colbyn
I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best roadhouse in South Africa. I might have just found the oldest one, right here in Pretoria. The Lollipop Roadhouse traces its history all the way back to before the Second World War, opening in 1935.
Famous for its massive portions, dagwoods, pizzas, ribs, curries and toasted sandwiches, I went classic. I ordered a neon pink strawberry milkshake and a double chilli cheeseburger with chips, which cost R119.00.
True to proper roadhouse tradition, the food was clipped onto my car window. I began by adding vinegar to my already salted chips, followed by a generous helping of tomato sauce and, of course, mustard — because I didn’t come here to mess around.
Starting off strong, the chips were solid. Nothing fancy, but they did exactly what they needed to do.
Then came the moerse burger you see before you. A jumbo patty and bun almost the size of my already large head, stacked with double cheese and drenched in prego jalapeno sauce. This burger was as good as it looks and definitely earns the Hammy stamp of approval on hammyeats.co.za
I highly recommend checking out the Lollipop Roadhouse for yourself. But if you think there’s a better one out there, let me know in the comments where I should go next.
