Daadi's Kitchen-Food & Catering
Unit no 4 Dawn heights 53
I’m Nick Hamman from Hammy Eats and trust me, this is a delicious one. I’m looking for the best Pakistani food in South Africa, and if you love food that hits deep with bold spice, slow-cooked love, and flavours that feel like home even if it’s not yours, then you probably should be too.
Today my search has taken me to Norwood, a suburb in Joburg that’s packed with incredible food joints, including this one. Daadi means grandmother in Urdu, and that’s exactly the vibe here — home-cooked, authentic comfort.
First up, prawn fried rice. This is Indo-Chinese magic done right: that smoky wok flavour, the prawns snapping fresh, rice tossed until it dances. It’s spicy, savoury, a little chaotic, and completely addictive. You don’t eat this, you inhale it and then stare at the empty plate wondering how it disappeared so fast.
Then, the mutton namkeen. This one’s proper old-school soul food. Mutton bubbling away in garlic and ghee — rich, fall-off-the-bone soft, suck-the-marrow satisfying. It’s everything your inner foodie dreams about. Every bite hits with that deep, salty warmth that makes you want to phone your gran and tell her you’ve just tasted home.
And then, a chicken dish so good I’m considering putting my name on it. The full combo — prawn, chicken, and naan — goes for R249.99.
I’d highly recommend trying it at Daadi’s for yourself. I’ve left the details in the caption, but if this isn’t the best Pakistani restaurant in South Africa, you need to let me know in the comments where I’m going next.
