Trouvé
118 Long Rd Bergbron
I’m Nick Hamman and this cheesecake frikken rocks. And if you’re looking for the coolest coffee shop in South Africa, look no further than this spot right here: Trouvé, along the antique strip on Long Road in Newlands, Johannesburg.
It might surprise you to learn there’s a whole road in Bergbron filled with stores selling secondhand treasures, antique wonders, proper gems, a bit of junk and everything in between. And right in the middle of this French, retro, wonderfully weird paradise, you’ll find a tiny café tucked into the corner of a room like it’s been waiting for you to discover it.
I went for the chai latte, my wife grabbed a sweet peach iced tea, and both were genuinely great. Then came the quiches, one spinach and feta, one biltong, followed by the sweet treats, including the aforementioned cheesecake and a carrot cake that honestly hits you with that old school charm you don’t find everywhere anymore.
The food tastes like visiting your grandma, in the best possible way. And if this kind of environment is your vibe, you need to pay a visit to Trouvé. I’ve left the details in the caption. But if you think this isn’t the coolest coffee shop in South Africa, then tell me in the comments where I need to go next.
