The Hood Kitchen is the brainchild of Anwaar, who was inspired by his parent’s life-long careers in the food industry despite no formal training. His passion and attention to detail are apparent.
Motivated by his father’s dream to bring industry and development to an often-overlooked part of Cape Town, the hood kitchen is about more than burgers. It’s about community upliftment, but to achieve that, the burgers need to be banging.
The Kitchen, which is Halal, occupies the back part of their property where at the start of the working day they begin the prepping process, starting off with my order of a double gourmet burger which I’ll rate out of 10
The burger, which goes for R120, has lettuce and red onion with lemon, creamy blue cheese sauce, double beef patty, double sliced cheese, and triple-fried wedges.

But how does it taste?

Filled with rich, savoury flavours, with pure beef patties delivering a juicy and robust taste. The creamy blue cheese sauce adds a luxurious and tangy element, perfectly complemented by the freshness of the lettuce and the sharpness of red onion. The double-sliced cheese contributes a melty, indulgent layer, while the dash of lemon provides a refreshing zing that cuts through the richness. The triple-fried crisp potato wedges complete the experience with a satisfying crunch, making every bite a delightful balance of textures and flavours.
