Saleh bbq tonight Lansdowne

I’m Nick Hamman, and I’m looking for the best chicken tikka in South Africa.

Today, I’m on Imam Haron Road in Lansdowne, at one of eight Saleh BBQ Tonight locations listed across Cape Town. This locally owned family business started in 2015 and, in just over a decade, has grown into a serious player in the city’s halaal food scene.

Chicken tikka is all about marinating chicken in spices before cooking it over fierce heat, giving you that smoky, slightly charred exterior while keeping the meat juicy inside. Saleh then brings everything together with its own special tikka sauce.

I ordered the quarter chicken with chips and a garlic naan—and that naan deserves its own moment: warm, soft, springy and absolutely loaded with garlic.

The chicken was tender, deeply seasoned and properly delicious, with enough heat to wake everything up without overpowering it.

Tear off some naan, scoop up that sauce, and you have a seriously satisfying Cape Town meal.
