Relish Delux Parkwood

I’m Nick Hamman and if you’re looking for a high-end, fully halal, 24-hour food experience, you need to check out Relish Delux, based out of the Astron Energy gas station on Jan Smuts, near Rosebank, Johannesburg.

The offering here is championed by Chef Muhammed Patel and was inspired by the growing need for a place with gourmet food options, a decadent bakery, and imported goods from around the world to be made easily available to the Muslim community — as well as anyone else looking for their fix, 24/7.

The menu is diverse, with everything from burgers, pastas, wraps, pizzas, and pies available — and so, naturally, I had to take myself on a journey across their offerings. I’m here to tell you, I was damn impressed.

My selections included their Asian Fried Chicken Burger and fries for R95. This was Asian-style fried chicken done together with cabbage slaw, burger mayo, and spicy sauce. Crispy chicken on a fresh roll, with a decent kick, and chips fried, crispy, hand-cut and delicious.

The Chicken Alfredo Pasta, with creamy chicken, mushrooms, and linguine, was also banging and will set you back R145. And then — the pizza, which I’m told is among their best sellers. Wood-fired epicness this time with chicken, peppadews, red onion, and feta — creating a food oasis I can definitely see myself coming back for.

And for those with a sweet tooth, I can confidently confirm their pastry offerings are indulgent, creamy — and yes, as good as they look.
