I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best chicken in South Africa and today I’ve got something special. I’m out in Sandton Johannesburg at The Wakanda Village, an awesome spot to eat great food while supporting amazing businesses, to pay a visit to the incredibly Chef D of Kasi Kombuis. Raised by her grandmother, whose mixed heritage of coloured South African and Pakistani birthed a love of food and culture and its ability to bring people together through flavour.

With a hustle that started with her selling baked goods on the bus, she’s grown into this a thriving business which includes my order today of Chicken Akni for R110. Chicken akni is pure comfort food. A fragrant Cape Malay rice dish where tender chicken, warm spices, potatoes and rice cook together into something deeply savoury, gently spiced, and unbelievably satisfying. And here its done, exceptionally well. She also makes a banging babotie, which I feel like as a dish we don’t appreciate enough as a country, which you’re welcome to rinse me for in the comments if you don’t agree.

I would highly recommend trying out Kasi Kombuis for yourself and have left the details in the caption, but if this is not the best chicken in South Africa, you need to let me know in the comments where I’m going next

Address: The Wakanda Village / Food Accelerator in Sandton is located at 137 West St, Sandown, Sandton, 2031, specifically within the Nelson Mandela Square precinct (behind the Sandton City Library).
