Mike's Food n Car Wash

I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best car wash food spot in Mzansi, which yes 100% should absolutely be a category of culinary experience and today I’m in the East Bank of Alex Township in Gauteng to pay a visit to a community favourite, Mikes Food n Car was run by Mike Nkwana.

Things move a little slower in the kasi on a Sunday, the street leading to the joint was jull of food spots, steam escaping from large pots of meat and pap, smoke from grills floating into the air, meeting the Sandton skyline in the distance

Here, people are chilling many taking advantage of the carwash on site. Around me a few lovers on dates, some families with children and a group of gents desperately refusing to let the weekend end.

Deciding to go for a full plate for R120 I got all of this hard body chicken or umlequa. free range, slow cooked until tender deeply flavour chicken soaking in this salty, hearty gravy that if nobody was looking I’d pick up my plate and drink. The pap was perfect and the sides were fresh and delicious with chillies providing the kinda kick I love.

This place is authentic, its not trying to be anything its not and definitely worth the hammy stamp of approval. I’m already thinking about coming back to try the rest of the menu.
