I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best ribs in South Africa and today your comments have sent me to Krugersdorp in the west of Gauteng to a spot called The Diner. Given what I heard, I was excited, but I must admit and hear me out, the place almost seemed too nice for good ribs. There’s something about dinginess that I associate with great ribs. Finding out the place was recently renovated and admittedly beautiful, I sat down to try out close to a kilogram of pork ribs together with chips and onion rings for R179 as part of their Thursday to Saturday special. But did these ribs live up to the expectations? No, they exceeded them. This was banging. Glistening pork ribs, smokey with a caramelized glazed, giving way to tender, fall off the bone meat with a sweet and savory basting, leaving my fingers sticky and my taste buds begging for more.
