The Royal Delhi

I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best curry in South Africa and today I’m trying out a local favourite, Royal Delhi in Gqeberha.

An ambitious young entrepreneur named Krish Pillay started the restaurant in April 1991, and through hard work and determination he grew the eatery into a household name.

In an industry where only few survive, this spot has been going strong since 1991, attributing consistency of quality to their success. First opened by Krish Pillay, it was his son Korshen who I met on my visit who’s proudly upholding the legacy as the second generation

Taking his advice I decided to opt for The Royal Delhi special, deboned lamb curry R169. And is it worth calling it among the best? Let’s put it this way, I would gladly fly to the Eastern Cape just to try it. Tender lamb, aromatic flavours that built slowly and consistently as I ate, naan straight from the oven and delicious basmati rice
