Oude Post Bistro

I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best roosterkoek in South Africa and today my search takes me to the Garden Route in the Western Cape to a place that sold over 2000 in one day, The Oude Post Bistro at the BP in Buffeljagsrivier between George and Cape Town. With countless options including cheese and jam, steak, egg and curried mince I went for chicken mayo for R63. This was mindblowingly good. Roosterkoek, for those who don’t know, is a proudly South African bread roll cooked over open flames, giving it a smoky, crisp crust while staying warm and fluffy inside — and here it was everything you’d hope for, hearty, comforting and absolutely unforgettable. Loaded with a generous amount of filling.
