I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best chicken in South Africa and today your comments have sent me to the birthplace of Charlize Theron, Benoni in the East of Joburg to come and try out Nabila’s Place, a small, understated spot, just outside a shopping mall, to taste  the flavours of authentic Mozambican cuisine. It may surprise some to learn of Mozambique’s Indian population, which makes for one of the most epic marriages of culinary fusion ever. The rissoles were R10 and exceptionally delicious. Chopped up prawns with herbs and spices, coated in breadcrumbs, and fried. For the quarter chicken and chips, which was R60, I went for their signature sauce done hot. It was incredibly delicious. A wonderful blend of classic Mozambique and distinctively Indian influences, with juicy, succulent meat. I would highly recommend checking out Nabila’s Place for yourself, but if it's not the best chicken in South Africa, you need to let me know in the comments where I’m

I’m Nick Hamman, and I’m looking for the best steak sandwich in South Africa—and I may have just found it here at Momo’s Takeaway and Grill at The V-Max Centre in Boksburg. Despite being on the scene for less than half a decade, this spot, run by Abdullah, has become the talk of the town and is already being compared to the greats.

I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best burger in South Africa and today your comments have sent me to Mafia Bite Burger Joint and Milkshake Bar in Mariasburg. Easily one of the most requested spots I’ve had from you guys, it’s clear to see why. These masters of meat, more than know what they’re doing. Together with their selection of Milkshakes like my choice of a delicious large Bar One for R50 the burgers are next level. Crisp fresh lettuce, sliced red onions, creamy feta crumbles, avo slices, grilled beef macon, cheddar cheese and mafia mayo. I already cant wait to come back and would highly recommend checking out Mafia Bites for yourself and have left the details in the caption, but if its not the best burger in South Africa, you need to let me know in the comments where I’m going next?

If you want to indulge in delicious, authentic Somali cuisine in South Africa, head to an area known as Little Mogadishu in Mayfair, Johannesburg, and visit Masha Allah. This canteen-styled restaurant offers a variety of traditional dishes, enveloped in the sounds of spoken Arabic, with friendly patrons inviting me to join them for a meal.

Im Nick Hamman, and I’m looking for the spiciest chicken in South Africa, and today, your comments have sent me to Fordsburg to The Al Makkah Tikka House. With all the makings of the classic tikka scene, chicken is braai’d outside on coals, with regular applications of the chili and lemon marinade applied as per the hungry patron’s choosing, on a brush directly to the chicken as it cooks. Consistent intervals of fanning also keep the red-hot coals consistent. I’ve come to Al Makkah before and had a brilliant experience, but I’ve never tried out their chicken tikka. Coming together with your choice of naan or chips, the quarter chicken goes for R45. A fair and standard price for similar meals in the area. To qualify my search, when I say spicy, I don’t mean burn your face-off for no good reason, but rather rich, aromatic, textures with beautiful flavours that show that the place appreciate good food, with just the right amount of heat to satisfy the craving and I’ve got to…

I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best samosas in South Africa and today your comments have sent me to the famous World of Samoosas in The Oriental Plaza in Fordsburg. The classic triangular pastry filled with savoury ingredients like minced meat or chicken spiced potatoes, corn and cheese and fried until crispy is often considered a fast-food, but here they’re seen as a proud delicacy of India. Opting for a takeout option, my box of 6 included lemon and chili sauce as well as a lesser spotted, sweet coconut samoosa. Tried and tested as one of the oldest shops in the plaza, the family-run business is an entrenched part of the fabric of the community and the samoosas are good, but if they're not the best let me know where I'm going next.

If you want to fill yourself up with a delicious, proper parcel, you need to head to Fordsburg, beneath the Joburg CBD. Finding where Bree Street and Central Road collide you'll come to the iconic Solly's Corner, founded by the late Solly Kajee and his family more than half a century ago. For just R60, you'll get a parcel with a Russian, salt, masala, and vinegar, sitting on a bed of slap chips, which many say is the best in town. Wrapped up together and ready for you to enjoy. Other parcels available include polony and fish, with burgers and sandwiches also available for purchase. Pull in and join the bustle of hungry locals on any given afternoon in the week for an authentic experience of Fordsburg food from one of its longest-standing institutions

I’m Nick Hamman, and I’m looking for the spiciest chicken in South Africa . Today, your comments have sent me to Al Hamra in Mayfair Johannesburg on the corner of 4th and the iconic church street. Having previously visited another Al Hamra branch is Fordsburg, which you can watch on my page. You guys told me that for even hotter chicken, I had to come here. Braaied outside on the pavement on hot open flames, the smell of the chicken wafts beautifully in the area with the red-hot sauce being applied liberally by Abdul Aziz.

I’m Nick Hamman, and I’m looking for the best curry in South Africa . This has to be one of the most requested places I’ve received from you guys, and I can certainly tell why. This is Bay Leaf on 57 Mint Road Fordsburg and has for a long time been one of my all-time favorites over the last decade of visiting Fordsburg. Boasting authentic Indian fusion memories, I often go for the mutton curry done hot together with garlic naan. It’s delicious and honesty I have no notes and always get really excited about coming here. I’d highly recommend checking out Bay Leaf for yourself, but if it's not the best curry in South Africa, you need to let me know in the comment s where I’m going next.

If you want to try a legend of South African fast food, you need to come to Akhalz in Norwood and experience The Wonder Why Pizza. An offshoot of the iconic Akhalwaya's, Akhalz is connected to one of the longest-standing institutions of fast food in the country, and in short, they know what they’re doing. This pizza is loaded with steak, cheese, chips, and palony, smothered in sauce, and blasted in a giant pizza oven before being served piping hot to customers for only R45. In addition to this famous pizza, they do samosas, a specialty of Lebanese flatbread, and the regulars you’d expect. As someone with a big appetite, this meal was more than enough to fill me up and definitely deserves its title as a tried and tested classic.

If you want to eat what some say is the spiciest chicken in South Africa, you need to come to Al Hamra on 70 Mint Road in Fordsburg. The epitome of not judging a book by its cover the exterior may not be inviting, but stepping inside, I found the restaurant to be clean and the service attentive.
70 Mint Rd Fordsburg
The best steak sandwich in South Africa just might be here at the iconic Kentucky Milk Bar at 95 Central Rd Fordsburg. Claiming to be the oldest take-out joint in the area, the home of the legends preserves a bygone era where members of the community can still be found filling their bellies and exchanging the days gossip, an important touchpoint that’s become all too rare. Now, in its second generation, back in the day, the owner could be found watching cricket behind the counter until 2 a.m., serving food to hungry movie goers who would come in between double features. Today the area has changed a great deal, but the food hasn’t, which is probably why they’ve lasted since the 60’s. Run today by Mohammed, who can be found at the store every day, a friendly man proud of his families heritage. The classic steak sandwich is simple. Steak, chips, masala, and cheese toasted to perfection. If it’s not the best, tell me know where I’m going next.

If you're looking for authentic and delicious Mozambican food in South Africa, you need to come to Moza's in Norwood, Johannesburg. As someone who's had the privilege of visiting Mozambique, to me their food is among the best in the world, and I've got to say that here they're doing it just like you'll find it across the border. With a wide variety of options on the menu, one of the characteristic differences is that their chicken is chargrilled, giving it a bold, smoky flavor. Mozambican food is a vibrant fusion of Portuguese, African, and Indian influences, with dishes like peri-peri chicken, from the famous African bird's eye chili, spicy grilled prawns, fresh seafood, and aromatic spices. The food at Moza's reminded me of being back on the white sandy beaches against the backdrop of the ocean, with the air filled by the smell of food cooking outside on an open fire. To me, the pricing was reasonable, with a quarter chicken, six prawns, chips, and a roll going for R189. Classics…

I’m Nick Hamman, and today I’m chowing with England's least favorite prop, the legendary Retshegofaditswe 'Ox' Nché. A springbok warrior deserves an epic meal, and so I brought him to one of my favorite places, The Kitchen of Oz in Emmarentia, and asked them to whip up something special. Never disappointing, they made a Smokey Rump Roll. 200g flame grilled BBQ style Rump steak topped with low and slow smoked brisket. Garnished with red onion and their in-house pickled mustard.

I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best steak in South Africa and I may have just found it, along the main road of Jan Smuts in Parkwood Johannesburg at Che Argentine Grill which sees you walking in from the cold of the streets into this beautiful, dimly lit restaurant with an open kitchen and distinct nods to the heritage of its owners. Oscar, a Uruguay native who grew up in South Africa and Bernado who moved from Argentina only some years ago. Our starters selection included Gambas al ajillo, shrimp  in garlic-infused olive oil with smoky hints of paprika and a touch of sherry sweetness, and Peruvian ceviche with Fish, lime juice, onion and chili. But the main event I was here to treat myself to was a 28-day dry aged 500-gram Rib Eye. Aged meat is pricey, and the prices may not be on the menu, so check beforehand. It is richer, beefier, and a lot more tender than standard steaks as the enzymes in the meat break down connective tissue during the aging process. This steak…

I’m Nick Hamman and I need your help in finding the best Greek Restaurants in South Africa and we begin our search at Mazi – meaning together, a new restaurant in Blairgowrie Johannesburg run by the son in law of the owner of one of Joburg’s most trusted Greek Establishments Papas on The Square.
74 Hillcrest Ave Blairgowrie
Im Nick Hamman, and I’m looking for the best Greek restaurant in South Africa . Today, your comments have sent me to Parea Taverna in Illovo, with a branch also opening last year in Linden Johannesburg. With almost 3 decades of experience, which is a considerable feat in the restaurant game, this tried and tested institution is world-class. While on a weekend night, you might find festive Greek dancers entertaining guests, this quiet afternoon lunch stop of mine was just as delicious. Opting for a vegetarian platter for 1 for R189, I got dios, falafel, dolmades, haloumi, giant beans, baby marrow, and brinjal I also ordered souvlaki lamb for R69, which came as cubes of lamb on a skewer. In my experience, everything was excellent. The atmosphere was homely and cozy, understated and unpretentious, the food was exceptional, and the service was professional and friendly. All considered  I’m going to give Parea an 8.7 out of town, as my favorite so far, but if it’s not the best…

I’m  Nick Hamman, and if you want to indulge in some delicious ribs and chips in Soweto, you should come to Maplankeng Eatery, situated at 1344 Molebatsi street in Dobsonville Arriving at the spot before the rush, I took a seat upstairs, to watch the streets go about their business while I enjoyed 300g smoked ribs and chips which came for what I felt to be a very fair R95. The meat isn’t smoked on site, but rather comes from a butchery. However, the basting was sweet and delicious, and the ribs were tender. The chips were also freshly fried and crispy. I found the staff friendly and the service good. Sitting here, to the west of Meadowlands, near more famous areas like Orlando, I couldn’t help but think of how much places like this could benefit from attention and investment, already doing so many things right to make for a fantastic experience. I’d highly recommend checking Maplankeng eatery out on your next visit to Dobsonville Soweto. Make sure to let me know in the…

I’m Nick Hamman and together with SuperSportBet I’m looking for the best place to watch the game and eat great food and today is a big one.  I’ve come to a newish spot in Sandton Johannesburg called BeerPark, a name which immediately caught my attention. I must mention that despite the name, I only clocked two kinds of beer on tap, but having lots of screens both inside and inside was a huge plus right out the gate. Here to watch the Bokke take on Ireland in the second clash of the test series at the Shark Tank in Durban, I was in serious need of fuel for what turned out to be one helluva game. Opting for The BPS burger for R170 which came together with fries. This behemoth was a triple stacked beef burger with cheese and bacon, and it was good! Juicy, filling and flavorful and requiring a good amount of effort to hold together, I’d definitely come back to try out more of the food. Despite the heartbreaking 24 – 25 one-point loss to Ireland, I thought the game was…

I’m Nick Hamman and I’ve got a seriously good plug for you, the latest talk of the town to hit the 4th Avenue strip in Parkhurst Johannesburg is a Korean restaurant called Surasang and you need to add it to your list. In edition street foods, stews, and Korean BBQ you need to get yourself the Korean Fried Chicken, mouthwatering dish of crispy, golden-brown chicken double-fried to perfection, coated in a sticky, sweet, spicy, and savory glaze that bursts with umami and often garnished with sesame seeds and green onions. The, the star of the show Korean hot pot, a steaming, communal feast of simmering broth filled with a vibrant medley of thinly sliced meats, fresh vegetables, noodles, and tofu, all bubbling together in a pot at the table, offering layers of bold, spicy, and savory flavors with every bite. I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best roadhouse in South Africa and today your comments have sent me to the birthplace of Charlize Theron to one of Three Burger Box Roadhouses, this time in Benoni. With the first one opening more than 70 years ago in Krugersdorp, this spot has all the making of a classic roadhouse with plenty of specials like pizza’s, ribs and chips, an inviting neon toilet sign and what I came here today, a good old fashion south African vetkoek with mince and melted cheese. There’s absolutely no way of getting around this, this is messy, indulgent, excessive, deep-fried deliciousness. 2 well stuffed vetkoek here together with chips is going to set you back R70. I would recommend checking out The Burger Box Roahouse for yourself and have left their details in the caption, but if its not the best roadhouse in South Africa, you need to let me know in the comments where I’m going next?
