I’m Nick Hamman and I’ve got a seriously good plug for you, the latest talk of the town to hit the 4th Avenue strip in Parkhurst Johannesburg is a Korean restaurant called Surasang and you need to add it to your list. In edition street foods, stews, and Korean BBQ you need to get yourself the Korean Fried Chicken, mouthwatering dish of crispy, golden-brown chicken double-fried to perfection, coated in a sticky, sweet, spicy, and savory glaze that bursts with umami and often garnished with sesame seeds and green onions. The, the star of the show Korean hot pot, a steaming, communal feast of simmering broth filled with a vibrant medley of thinly sliced meats, fresh vegetables, noodles, and tofu, all bubbling together in a pot at the table, offering layers of bold, spicy, and savory flavors with every bite. I would highly recommend checking out Surasang for yourself and have left their details in the caption

If you want to eat authentic Chinese food in South Africa, you should come to Johannesburg's Chinatown in the eastern suburb of Cyrildene and pay a visit to Mongkok, named after one of the world's busiest districts in Hong Kong. It's here that you'll find food that is closer to traditional tastes and flavorings than many of the fast-food offerings otherwise available. My wife and I went for Sichuan beef and cashew nut chicken together with noodles. I'd highly recommend checking Mongkok out. Make sure to follow for more food adventures.

I’m Nick Hamman. Join me today as I explore Johannesburg’s first Chinatown, which settled in Commissioner Street in the early 20th century, enjoying its heyday between the 30’s and 70’s. Once home to two Chinese schools, social hubs and the only Chinese newspaper in Africa, now few stalwarts remain, like the restaurant Swallows Inn, which lays claim to being the oldest Chinese restaurant in South Africa. Unsure of what to order, I went for a combo noodle soup, fairly priced at R95, including flat noodles, chicken, beef, and seafood together with vegetables This was traditional Chinese food, prepared by people who’ve clearly done something right to last as long as they have. I’d recommend a visit to Swallows Inn to try the food out for yourself. Make sure to give me a follow for more adventures

I’m Nick Hamman, and I may have just found the best Chinese restaurant in South Africa, which I need to thank my new friend Akira, who runs a brilliant food page called @joburg_noms for taking me to. Joining my wife and I for lunch, we visited Tea and Antique in Bedfordview, run by a husband-and-wife couple who started the spot a little over a year ago before moving from Newcastle in KZN
