I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best steak in South Africa and I may have just found it, along the main road of Jan Smuts in Parkwood Johannesburg at Che Argentine Grill which sees you walking in from the cold of the streets into this beautiful, dimly lit restaurant with an open kitchen and distinct nods to the heritage of its owners. Oscar, a Uruguay native who grew up in South Africa and Bernado who moved from Argentina only some years ago. Our starters selection included Gambas al ajillo, shrimp in garlic-infused olive oil with smoky hints of paprika and a touch of sherry sweetness, and Peruvian ceviche with Fish, lime juice, onion and chili. But the main event I was here to treat myself to was a 28-day dry aged 500-gram Rib Eye. Aged meat is pricey, and the prices may not be on the menu, so check beforehand. It is richer, beefier, and a lot more tender than standard steaks as the enzymes in the meat break down connective tissue during the aging process. This steak…

I’m Nick Hamman, and if you want to indulge in some delicious ribs and chips in Soweto, you should come to Maplankeng Eatery, situated at 1344 Molebatsi street in Dobsonville Arriving at the spot before the rush, I took a seat upstairs, to watch the streets go about their business while I enjoyed 300g smoked ribs and chips which came for what I felt to be a very fair R95. The meat isn’t smoked on site, but rather comes from a butchery. However, the basting was sweet and delicious, and the ribs were tender. The chips were also freshly fried and crispy. I found the staff friendly and the service good. Sitting here, to the west of Meadowlands, near more famous areas like Orlando, I couldn’t help but think of how much places like this could benefit from attention and investment, already doing so many things right to make for a fantastic experience. I’d highly recommend checking Maplankeng eatery out on your next visit to Dobsonville Soweto. Make sure to let me know in the…

I’m Nick Hamman and together with McCain I’m here to plug you in on an epic place to indulge in great food – Ribs&Burgers with branches in Johannesburg and Pretoria. I’ve come to their store at Nicolway together with McCain who’s challenged me to visit some of the best spots using their iconic chips. Taking on the Rib Fest, I went to Memphis. Succulent, tender baby back pork ribs with BBQ basting served with a brioche bun, pickles, lime black pepper and herb aioli and jalapeno and corn slaw

I’m Nick Hamman and if you want to indulge in some seriously epic takeout, pleasure food you should check out The Golden Grill Club at 411 Pretoria Rd Silverton and available on Uber Eats. Something awesome you may be keen to try is searching for HDP – Owned partners on the Uber Eats Platform. I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best car wash food spot in South Africa in honor of the great SA tradition and today I’m out in Midrand, at the Corner of Old Pretoria Main Road and Olifantsfontein at a spot called TGees Car Wash and Eatery. Coming on a quiet midweek afternoon, I’m told the place can turn into a proper vibe over the weekend. Trying what I thought was a very affordable TGee’s grill for R65, I went for a plate of steak and served pap and my choice of 3 sides. Chakalaka, Beetroot and Cabbage. The staff were friendly, and as a massive bonus, the food came beautifully presented. The meat is tender, with a tasty basting on the steak and the sides fresh and filling. I’d highly recommend checking TGee’s Carwash and Grill out for yourself, but if it's not the best car was food spot in South Africa, you need to let me know in the comments where I’m going next

I’m Nick Hamman and I’ve got another epic plug for you. If you’re looking for a spot in Jozi to come and eat delicious food, hang out and catch the game and get your car washed, you should come to Kudu’s joint in Ivory Park, just outside Midrand. Offering both a specialist Kota as well as general menu, the place has everything from ribs, steak, and wings to a chips, atchar and polony Kota for R20. Kudu’s Joint is owned by Efrahaim Pilusa. Starting out here just before Covid in 2019, there have been challenges, however today the spot is well established with a great reputation, with patrons coming from far and wide to enjoy the atmosphere. With so much great sport at the moment, this place is said to be pumping frequently. Going for the ribs, wings and chips combo, my meal came in at R140. As a start, I was impressed by the large ranges of available sauces, with chili being my choice of the day. The chips really were as good as they looked. They were hot, fresh and…

I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best Roadhouse in South Africa and today your comments have sent me to The Fireplace Roadhouse in Boksburg. Easily on of the most requested places I’d received from you guys, this institution along Anderbolt Road has been serving up all the classics like hot dogs and burgers to hungry travelers since 1958. Opting for what you guys said I should try I ordered the Blondie for R116. This was a mother of a meal ,a hearty sandwich featuring a patty, fillet, bacon, egg, cheese, and trimmings and trimmings, washed down with a bubble-gum milkshake and a side of great fries. I would highly recommend checking out The Fireplace Roadhouse for yourself and have left the details in the caption, but if it’s not the best roadhouse in South Africa, you need to let me know in the comments where I’m going next?

I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best ribs in South Africa and today your comments have sent me to Krugersdorp in the west of Gauteng to a spot called The Diner. Given what I heard, I was excited, but I must admit and hear me out, the place almost seemed too nice for good ribs. There’s something about dinginess that I associate with great ribs. Finding out the place was recently renovated and admittedly beautiful, I sat down to try out close to a kilogram of pork ribs together with chips and onion rings for R179 as part of their Thursday to Saturday special. But did these ribs live up to the expectations? No, they exceeded them. This was banging. Glistening pork ribs, smokey with a caramelized glazed, giving way to tender, fall off the bone meat with a sweet and savory basting, leaving my fingers sticky and my taste buds begging for more. I would highly recommend checking out The Diner for yourself and have left their details in the caption, but if its not the best Ribs in…

I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best ribs in South Africa, and many say they are made by this man, Billy Anderson at Vini’s in Bedfordview, Gauteng. With over 30 years in the game, already the next generation, including his son Marc have begun to take over behind the grill, using a secret basting recipe and plenty of pure, epic, flame-grilled action to make succulent, fall of the bone ribs. As I’m sure you’ve noticed, for me its not just about food, it’s about a celebration of family, culture, history and tradition. Telling these rich stories is why I started Hammy Eats on YouTube, which on Monday, celebrates its 10th episode, about the storied behind this very institution. If you haven’t yet, head over and subscribe to connect with what I really believe to be a fantastic, brilliant and mouthwatering show and make sure to let me know in the comments which restaurant’s story you would like us to cover next
